ONSITE

The One-Stop Shop for Underground Construction
ONSITE

Excellent planning and execution skills are highly sought after in underground construction. While following construction plans, contractors must also be aware of existing utility lines in the construction area and plan their projects accordingly. The job, however, does not end there. Whether it is directional drilling or open trenching, restoring the surface to its original condition is as important as the underground construction itself.

This is where ONSITE excels with a wide range of professional underground construction and full-scale repaving capability services for the telecommunications industry. With over 30 years of experience in the commercial construction industry, the company undertakes various types of underground construction projects, including directional drilling, open trenching, and rock saw trench work.As businesses became highly reliant on high-quality network connectivity during the pandemic, ONSITE narrowed its focus on helping the telecommunications industry meet the rapidly increasing demand for internet services.

“Our deep expertise in underground construction has proven to be of significant help for network carriers like Comcast, AT&T, and Verizon,” says Rich Estrada, President and CEO at ONSITE.

For each project, ONSITE excavates the construction site and lays the pipeline. Carriers can then install their fiber cables through the newly laid pipes and provide internet connectivity to their customers. Once the cables are installed, the company not only restores the streets and sidewalks in the construction area but leaves them in better condition than before. With real paving experience, asphalt milling machines, and skid steer loaders, ONSITE is fully equipped to handle any paving operation a project demands.

Although open trenching helps prevent damage to existing underground infrastructure, the cost of repaving the streets is relatively high in this process, which often deters construction companies from backfilling the excavated region. ONSITE’s diligence in repaving streets after construction has helped the company distinguish itself from its competitors.

ONSITE’s specialization in open trenching construction gives it a significant advantage in cities like Oakland & San Francisco, where directional drilling for construction is very seldom permitted. In cities like Sacramento, where the ground is much harder, the company leverages rock saw trenching to cut deep enough through the pavement to drop the conduit into the ground.

Our deep expertise in underground construction has proven to be of significant help for network carriers like Comcast, AT&T, and Verizon

The 13-foot rule in Oakland states that any excavation needs to be 13 feet wide and must be repaved after the project, whether it’s 100 feet of road or the whole block. As a result, underground construction in Oakland can be highly complex, especially in areas with concrete pavement. It requires the expertise of a seasoned underground construction company like ONSITE.

In one instance, ONSITE was approached by one of Comcast’s general contractors, CableCom, for an open trenching project in downtown Oakland. The construction site was in a high-traffic area paved with concrete, with numerous streets, crosswalks, and buildings, making repaving even more challenging.

ONSITE met with city officials to assess the project and decided to work two shifts. This allowed the company to complete the task ahead of schedule with minimum disruption, enabling Comcast to connect with their customers faster than they had anticipated.

In another instance, ONSITE’s services proved helpful for Comcast when they were unable to get permits for construction due to their previous construction contractor neglecting to restore sites. The company worked with its crews and completed the repaving work in a couple of weeks.

Focused on delivering services of the highest quality, ONSITE relies on the experience of its highly skilled professionals to plan and safely execute each project. Striving to exceed client expectations every time, ONSITE continues to offer an exceptional combination of quality and experience to help customers reduce liability, preserve capital, and prevent high maintenance costs.
